ACADEMIC FORMATION

1988-1989 

Ends the Complementary Course of Image and Comunication in the António Arroio School

 

1994-1995 

Licentiate Degree in Plastic Arts - Sculpture, from the Academy of Fine Arts of the Lisbon University;

 

 2001-2002

 Masters in Theory of Art , on the 8 th of January, final classification VERY GOOD,  ( MAGNA CUM LAUDUM )dissentient vote from the jury.

 

 

COMPLEMENTARY STUDIES AND EXPERIENCE

( Sculpture Technologies )

Wood – Between 1978 and 1990 he devotes himself to the wood sculpture.

In 1981, finishes the Carpenter Course at the Centro de Formação Profissional de Alverca .

 

Stone -   In 1978,  in the north of Portugal, he devotes himself to the learning of the cut and work of the granite, using the traditional methods.

Between 1991 and 1992,  executes pieces on stone, works on marble and grows his knowledge on electric and manual tools that can be applied to sculpture.

 

Serigraphy – In 1979, he  takes an intensive course of 15 days.

 

Bronze –  In 1981, in Braga and Lisbon, he executes his first pieces.

In 1991,  in  Sacavém, Lisbon, he takes the course on the art of casting     bronze,  with David Reid, sculptor.

 

Plaster – In 1984,  at the firm Gessimolde,  in the north of Portugal, he works in the prodution of prefabricated in ceramic plaster, using rubber and silicone moulds.

 

Terracota – In 1992,  as a student of the 2nd Year and within the Plastic Arts subject, he studies, tests and collects different kinds of soils. His interest his taken by the variety, plastic properties, caracteristics and specificities of the ceramic paste, its historical, tecnological and etnocultural uses.

From 1995 he visits some industrial units seeking to understand the industrial prodution/reprodution systems and specifically the moulding process.

In 1998 takes part in the 2nd Simposyum of Terracota Sculpture in Montemor-o-Novo .

 

Metals –  In 1993  grows his interest on the metal technology and the possibility of its utilization in  sculpture .

Between 1993 and 1998, he devotes several weeks on year working in little industrial units, executing sculptorical proposals, namely in the firm Aliportas, near Lisbon .

1997 /1998

191 days, from September to March , as a teacher in the Basic Course of Plastic Arts – Scenic Arts, at the Colégio de S.ta Clara  da Casa Pia de Lisboa.

On March of 1998,  as a Asssistant Trainee – Sculptor, he teaches the 1st and 2nd Years, at the Academy of Fine Arts of the  Lisbon University.

Member of the jury at the Final Professional Qualification Exam at the Colégio de S.ta Clara  da Casa Pia de Lisboa.
